MODULE 1: HOLOGRAM INTRO
The space is conceived as an entry into the symbolic world of sicanje. At its center, a hologram composed of kolo (“wheel”) and narukvica (“bracelet”) motifs rotates, while light projections pulse in rhythm with electronic music. Sound and a subtle layer of smoke create a sense of mystery.
MODULE 2: HISTORY OF SICANJE
This module introduces visitors to the history and development of sicanje—from the origins of its symbols to their contemporary interpretations.
The right wall presents the origins of pre-Christian motifs and the ways in which these symbols have been preserved, adapted, and transformed throughout the history of Bosnia and Herzegovina, while the left wall guides visitors through the development of the tradition itself—from the time of the Ottoman conquests, through its preservation, to its present-day presence in popular culture.
MODULE 3: ORNAMENTATION
The third module is dedicated to ornaments—the key visual motifs of sicanje.
The walls display the main ornaments along with their names and meanings. The space is accompanied by the sound of rhythmic foot stamping in a circle, enhancing the sense of ritual and mysticism.
MODULE 4: VIDEO ROOM
The fourth, darkened module creates an intimate space for the screening of a documentary film.
The film reconstructs the technique and ritual of sicanje, connecting them with personal testimonies of individuals who share their own experiences and the meanings that sicanje holds for them.
MODULE 5: INTERACTIVE/SOUVENIR SHOP
The fifth module combines an interactive space with a museum shop.
Visitors can create and virtually try on their own temporary tattoos using smart tables and interactive mirrors, and purchase them as personalized souvenirs. On the opposite wall, a museum shop offers branded items.
